Ingredients:

  • For the steak:
    • 1-inch thick steak (e.g., ribeye, sirloin)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • Salt and pepper to taste

  • For the red wine sauce:
    • 1/2 cup red wine
    • 1/4 cup beef broth
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon butter

  • For the mashed potatoes:
    • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook potatoes: Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  2. Season steak: Season steak with salt and pepper.
  3. Sear steak: Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Sear steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
  4. Make red wine sauce: In the same skillet, add red wine, beef broth, Dijon mustard, and garlic. Bring to a simmer and cook until reduced by half. Stir in butter until melted.
  5. Serve: Serve sliced steak with mashed potatoes and red wine sauce.
