Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the paneer:
    • 1 pound paneer, cubed
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • For the masala sauce:
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 inch piece ginger, grated
    • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
    • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • Salt and pepper to taste

  • For serving:
    • Naan bread or rice
    • Fresh cilantro leaves

Instructions:

  1. Prepare paneer: In a small bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Toss paneer cubes in the mixture to coat.
  2. Make masala sauce: Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and ginger, and cook until softened. Add diced tomatoes, cumin, coriander, garam masala, and red chili powder. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  3. Add paneer: Add paneer cubes to the sauce and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the paneer is heated through and coated in the sauce.
  4. Stir in cream: Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 2-3 minutes more, or until the sauce has thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve: Serve paneer butter masala with naan bread or rice. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
